CVTD AWARDED OUTSTANDING TRANSIT SYSTEM OF THE YEAR
The Cache Valley Transit District received the Fifteenth Annual Kae Draper Outstanding Transit System Award at the URSTA conference on May 14, 2010. CVTD has served the residents of Cache Valley
for 18 years as one of few fare-free systems in the country.
Kae Draper was an advocate for transit that helped create Utah’s Urban Rural & Specialized Transportation Association (URSTA) in 1988, and she used her knowledge and expertise to assist transit agencies in Utah.
CVTD provides over 1.9 million trips and is among the safest public transit organizations in the country and was recognized nationally as being one of the safest transit locations in the country. CVTD received a
proclamation for driving more than one million miles with no preventable accidents and has a 98% on time passenger transfer ratio. CVTD continues to operate as one of the safest systems in the country. Ridership has
grown 41% over the past 5 years and is currently growing at 5% in 2010.
Over the past year CVTD ended its third-party contract and brought all services in-house. This was completed in less than 3 months with no interruption in service to riders or employees. By taking the operations
and maintenance in house, CVTD is better positioned to accomplish the Board’s vision of providing progressive leadership for the region's transportations needs.
CVTD secured ARRA funding to complete an addition to the administration building and held a ribbon cutting event with Senator Bob Bennett as the keynote speaker.
Grants have been secured to purchase two diesel hybrid buses and three 40 foot buses that will arrive in December.
CVTD continues to be a strong partner with URSTA, having members on the Board and assisting with training and resources to help deliver training throughout the state.
