LOCAL BUS DRIVERS COMPETE NATIONALLY
Local bus drivers from Cache Valley Transit District, and OPTIONS for Independence, recently competed in a National Community Transportation Roadeo in Long Beach, CA during the CTAA annual
roadeo and conference on May 23, 2010.
The 69 participants in the roadeo competed from areas across the nation. Sam Tingey from CVTD took 14th place and Stan Clelland from Options for Independence took 27th in the Transit Bus
category. Mandy Kaneko from Options from Independence placed 12th in the Van category. Areas of competition are: driving skills, written test, wheelchair tie-down and pre-trip.
Cheryl Atwood, OPTIONS for Independence said, “I am so proud of Mandy and Stan who represented OPTIONS for Independence at the Roadeo this year. OPTIONS is a small organization compared
to others that compete at this level.”
The roadeo participants are sponsored by URSTA, a statewide training and advocacy association for transportation providers. URSTA holds a statewide roadeo every fall that qualifies the 3
top individuals from the State to send to the national competition. “Congratulations to the participants for an outstanding job competing at the national roadeo.” said Todd Beutler, URSTA president
and GM for CVTD.
